Navigation in Data Grids

Some of these tips only apply when a data grid allows for multiple selection.

Windows Navigation Macintosh Navigation Action
Up/Down/Left/Right Arrow Up/Down/Left/Right Arrow Use the arrows to move the selection up/down/left/right one item. Hold down the CTRL key (Windows) or the CMD key (OSX) to only move the caret, but not change the selection.
Page Up/Down Page Up/Down Click to move the selection up/down one page.
Home Home (Macintosh)

Fn + Left Arrow (MacBook)

Click to move the selection to the top of the grid.
End End (Macintosh)

Fn+Right Arrow (MacBook)

Click to move the selection to the bottom of the grid.
CTRL+navigation key CMD+navigation key Click for multiple, noncontiguous selection and deselection in multiple selection mode. This works with Arrow/Page Up/Page Down keys, mouse click, and mouse drag.
Shift+a navigation key Click for contiguous selection in multiple selection mode. This works with Arrow/Page Up/Page Down keys, mouse click, and mouse drag.
CTRL+A CMD+A Click to select all grid items. This applies to text fields.
SPACE Click to add the caret to the selection list.
CTRL+SPACE Click to toggle the selection of the caret.
SHIFT+SPACE Click to extend the selection from the anchor to the caret.
